Kick these five dangerous habits to the curb before it's too late:

    Smoking

The hard truth is that smoking will kill you. It has been clinically proven that smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, affecting your health and increasing your likelihood of developing cancer as well as a whole host of chronic diseases. Close to half a million Americans die each year from smoking-related health conditions. Half a million every year! Fortunately there is a plethora of smoking cessation resources out there. Find what works for youand quit!

    Excessive Drinking

Excessive drinking wears your body out. Processing large quantities of alcohol is hard on our bodies and over time, alcohol abuse can lead to the development of neurological damage, cirrhosis, cardiovascular disease and so much more. Also, the abundance of empty calories found in alcohol can contribute to excessive weight gain adding insult to injury. It is important to note though that studies have shown that moderate alcohol use can actually benefit your health. So be aware and keep it under control.

    Inactivity

The Yale Medical Group states that thousands of deaths result each year due to a lack of physical activity. We, as Americans, work hard but aren't following it up by playing hard. According to the Surgeon General, 60 percent of Americans are not regularly active. And even worse, 25 percent of us aren't active at all. Regular exercise is extremely important and has a number of benefits, not the least of which is living longer. Get out there, get moving and reap the rewards.

    Poor Diet

We all know what we eat directly affects our mood, weight, energy level and productivity, not to mention our long-term health. The risks of an unhealthy diet are numerous, the number one being obesity and increased risk of death. Diet-to-Go offers a variety of nutritionally balanced meal plans to help get you started. Lack of Sleep

According to the National Sleep Foundation getting enough continuous quality sleep each night has a significant impact on the overall quality of our lives. Sleep deprivation can affect your immune system, is linked to weight gain and is one of American's top health problems. And everyone is just plain cranky when they are tired. Seven to nine hours a night is the recommended amount of sleep for adults. So relax and let the zzz's take over.
